Retreats and Instruction
At Mindfulness-Within, we have the experience and expertise to design the kind of retreat or class you are seeking. Whether it is a one-hour introductory session, a biweekly class, or a weekend-long retreat, we will draw from our vast menu of techniques and practices to create an engaging and transformative experience with you.

Diverse Techniques
We have many ways to help demystify mysticism:
Guided and silent meditations, body-scans, movement meditations (yoga), dance, journaling, mindful eating, awe in nature, and contemplative dialogue are just some of the ways we help participants to access the power of awareness.
We draw on the evidence and language of science to teach techniques and practices that have been cultivated from around the world and across time. When we understand how and why something works, we are able to practice it to greater effect.

Diverse Participants
Our teachings and practices appeal to a wide range of individuals and communities. We have experience with teenagers, senior citizens, and everyone in between. We work with secular groups, religious groups, schools, companies, and other types of communities.
Bob Mattingly of the Center for Spiritual and Ethical Education defines spirituality as “relationship or identification with realities greater than oneself, and this can be secular or religious.” Our techniques and practices help you to deepen your relationship with yourself, your group, and beyond, to whatever extent and whatever realities constitute your worldview.

Diverse Purposes
We tailor our offerings to you. For example:
In a corporate retreat setting, we focus on phenomenology, the practice of bringing one’s preconceptions to awareness. This helps each individual to notice and filter out their own reactions, so they can better listen to, understand, and successfully collaborate with their fellow team members.
In a wellness setting, such as an assisted-living home, we use practices that produce simple awareness of sensations, emotions, and thoughts. This awareness leads to feelings of well-being in the moment, as well as to future decisions that increase wellness, such as healthier food choices and pro-social actions.
